Course overview

Based on ISO/TR 26122 Work Process Analysis for Recordkeeping this two day workshop guides participants through purpose, value and use of work process analysis to support the creation, capture and management of records. It explores and applies two types of analyses:

  • functional analysis (decomposition of functions into processes), and
  • sequential analysis (investigation of the flow of transactions).

It also discusses the relationship between the two types of analyses and how they may be used to support the development and application of retention and disposal schedules, classification schemes for records and integrating records into business processes.

This course costs $715, including GST, per participant. (GST does not apply to NZ courses).

Course aims

The aim of this course is to provide participants with an opportunity to develop an understanding of the purpose, value and application of business process analysis in achieving better recordkeeping outcomes for organisations.

By the end of the course participants will be able to successfully identify options for integrating or strengthening an organisation’s recordkeeping capability through the application of functional and sequential analysis techniques and mapping methods to business processes.

  • Process analysis and DIRKS: where does process analysis fit in the DIRKS method?
  • Functional analysis: purpose, steps and application
  • Sequential analysis: purpose, steps and application
  • Consultation and change: importance, tips and techniques

Day 2: Applying business process analysis to recordkeeping

  • Planning and scoping analysis
  • Defining design principles
  • Defining and mapping processes for functional analysis
  • Defining and mapping processes for sequential analysis
  • Analysing business processes
  • Summary and conclusion
