Developing a Records Taxonomy

This course is delivered on behalf of Recordkeeping Innovation. During 2010 we will be delivering this course on:

This two day course focuses on taxonomies for records classification. It identifies various methods for developing taxonomies, including workflow analysis. Focusing on industry best practice in defining classification for records by function, activities and transactions, it provides hands on exercises for analysing and defining these layers of classification. It provides detailed instruction on developing, maintaining and implementing thesaurus for records. It features practical exercises, undertaken both individually and in groups.

This course covers the fundamental principles and practices of records management. It provides participants with a basic understanding of the activities involved in managing paper and electronic records.

Learning objectives

By the end of this course participants should be able to:

  • Articulate the relationship of taxonomies, classification schemes and thesaurus for recordkeeping
  • Identify various methods of classifying records
  • Identify functions, activities and transactions
  • Compile a recordkeeping thesaurus
  • Maintain and implement a recordkeeping thesaurus

Learner profile

Geared to provide a solid understanding of taxonomy development and classification techniques for records, this course is aimed at records practitioners responsible for devising, implementing and managing records classifications and those responsible for the ongoing maintenance of these critical recordkeeping tools.

Course fees

The fee for this two day course is $650 including GST.

A 10% discount is offered for the 2nd and subsequent participants from one organisation at one course on the same day.

A 10% discount is offered for those participants attending two of the following courses within 6 months of the first course.
